One of the amazing aspects of Baba Medahochi's character is his dedication to uplifting his family, his people, and humanity in general. Baba Medahochi created works of art. He translated and summarized writings about Afrikan culture from around the world. He learned several languages and offered language classes. He lectured both for large audiences and in his home for his "sons and daughters". He invested in all of us. In fact, he became us. |
Now it is time for us to continue his legacy and make the name "Medahochi" great all over the world. Let us deify his name!

A dupe pupo Baba Medahochi for your selfless commitment, love, loyalty and devotion to Afrikan people Worldwide. this entire website is a beautiful devotion to his life and i have learned so much more about his contributions by reading this information here. i am moved beyond words! i have heard the name Baba Medahochi frequently in my late adult life, but i never had the opportunity to know much about him because of the limited information in canada on Afrikan nationalism and spirituality in the diaspora. i just wanted to add this comment to say Mo dupe pupo, Meda ase pa ara, Asante sana to his family and extended family for sharing his life with US all. Ase.

I wish the Baba the best in the world he lives in now.
This is a selfish request. I'm simply interested to find out whatever happened to Saul Hernandez, one of Baba's teachers.
Thanks. I'm at ronchism@yahoo.com

Baba Medahochi's study and literature clearly states that he began his quest for vodun understanding by modeling Haiti. Medahochi has known Paulin Marseille since 1983 when he initiated Medahochi's wife to erzulie, Modupe Oshalamibi Omowale Zannu Ajinaku in 1984. Every Haitian can tell you who Gran Bwa is and what it means when you say racine. Any further questions can be directed to those of medahochi's children and grandchildren who have been initiated by Paulin Marseille. This website should not be used to dispute the life of Medahochi which is very real. Medahochi's idea of Nu Afrikan Vodun comes directly from the model of Haiti. Medahochi was concerned with african people acknowledging all of their ancestral lineage. Haiti is the best example for that. They salute the lineage of 21 nations. any questions, 404-604-7451 to speak with sweet honey or paulin marseille directly.

On Medahoci's Bio page, it states the following:
" . . he was formally initiated into the worship of his Vodun Racine Grandbwa Sile/Togbui Nyibla by Hungan Paulin Marseille. A few years later, in North Carolina Baba was pronounced the Da of the Dahomian Vodun rites of North America."
What is this "Racine Grandbwa Sile/Togbui Nyibla?" What Loa is this "Racine Grandbwa" in Haitian Vodou? Where is "Hungan Paulin Marseille" now?
NOTE FROM EDITOR:
Baba Medahochi was part of a group of people legitimizing a lineage of Vodou based on a Dahomian spiritual ancestry with a Nu African perspective. This rite has nothing to do with Haitian Vodou. Hungan Paulin Marseille presently lives in Atlanta, GA.

I was blessed to have been accepted into his spiritual family by Baba Medahochi, Iyalosha Noshi and Iyalosha Eniola. Baba was a fountain of knowledge, and a great teacher and mentor. I will always treasure the conversations with him about Ifa, and the opportunity to collaborate with him in translating into English materials from Spanish and French. As his spiritual children let us continud his efforts to expand knowledge of the wisdom of Ifa.

Medahochi...is my beloved Godfather...he is the one person who always wanted to help me stay on my path of understanding in this beautiful religion. I loved the Chief...and I always will. He never had a closed ear when it came to all the questions I wanted answers to. It was his practice to open his home, his books, his heart to me whenever I needed to be heard or advised. Even after my initiation as Priestess of Oshun and my initiation in Benin, West Africa...he remained my reference and refuge. A very special genius...

To many people Medahochi was a great priest and a person who was to awed but to me he was just grandfather or fafa. I didn't get to spend as much time as i would have liked with my grandfather but the times that i did get to be with him i will always cherish dearly. I looked up to and respected him. I felt that i could talk to him about anything. i will miss him dearly but i know that he is in a better place and that he's saving a seat for me next to him.
